The Mind-Body Digestive Center

news We've posted a review on a recent research article, "Couples’ Support Provision During Illness: The Role of Perceived Emotional Responsiveness." This research focuses on how marital relationships can exert positive or negative psychological and physical effects on an individual experiencing stress from chronic illness. While this article describes patients with lupus, we believe the results apply to other chronic illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome and hope our readers find it helpful.

The Drs. Gerson of the Mind-Body Digestive Center were quoted in Jane Brody's health column in The New York Times, in an article about Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Click here to read an excerpt.

Based in New York City, the Mind-Body Digestive Center was founded by gastroenterologist Charles D. Gerson, M.D. and clinical psychologist Mary–Joan Gerson, Ph.D. to help patients with functional bowel disorders, with a focus on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
IBS Circle
Our Center takes a holistic view of IBS. Beginning with a comprehensive analysis of the patient's symptoms and prior treatment, our treatment protocol looks at the experience and meaning of IBS in a person's life. We are concerned with how the mind and the body are linked, and the connections between IBS symptoms, family background, current relationships and ongoing sources of life stress. At the Center, we offer a comprehensive treatment program that includes gastroenterology, clinical psychology, group hypnotherapy, nutrition and acupuncture.

We offer you the latest research on IBS and many other resources.
